A few days ago guests at Walt Disney World using the monorail to Epcot held on a little tighter than usual as it set off. The doors to the carriage did not close completely as the monorail left the station and continued on its journey. Guests were obviously shocked it had been allowed to carry on with an open door. As the monorail approached the station at Epcot a guest waved out of the open door at cast members to alert them about the fault.

As a safety precaution the monorail driver should be notified if a door hasn’t closed properly before it leaves the station. It isn’t known if there was a system error or another reason why this didn’t happen.

There have been concerns for a while about the state of the monorail system at Walt Disney World. In June a guest reported a piece of a monorail had fallen off and landed in the car park, train came to a stop mid way on a journey after smoke was seen coming from the rails. Guests had to be rescued by fire and rescue teams. In July a monorail was spotted being towed into the station at Epcot after breaking down.

There has been no statement from Disney regarding the incident but perhaps it is now a good idea for guests to take heed of the recently added notices on the doors saying “ Caution: Do not lean against door”.
