Just got back yesterday after visiting our eldest son who lives near London so I thought I’d share it with you.

Friday - we caught the 9.49 train to Euston which arrived at 1.15. Then it was down on the underground and over to Waterloo station. A quick dash as the train was already in and we are off to Egham, which takes about 40 minutes. A short walk from the station and we are at the Travelodge, which is near to Craig’s flat. Pop into Tesco’s for a few bits then back to the hotel to relax before Craig gets home from work. We get a chippy for tea tonight and have a nice evening at his flat.

Saturday - today we are off to Winter Wonderland at Hyde Park. Unfortunately it’s raining today. When we get there it isn’t too busy and luckily we didn’t have to queue to get in. It’s the first time we have been to it and we didn’t realise how big it was. There was lots of rides, most with a Christmas theme, stalls and places to eat. We ate at the Bavarian village. Alan and Craig had bratwurst sausage in a roll and I had potato’s, bacon and onion which was really nice. We left just after 3 o’clock as the rain was getting heavier and went back to Craig’s. For tea we went to a local restaurant, Alan and I had pork chop with bubble & squeak and Craig had a steak. For pudding Alan and I had creme brûlée and Craig had an ice cream. It was all very nice.

Sunday - Today is sunny but cold. Decided to not go into London today, so Craig took us to a nearby garden centre that sells all sorts of things. It had a fantastic range of Christmas decorations, which I brought a couple of. Also a small range of American sweets and food. Alan couldn’t resist a bag of Laffy taffy and I treated myself to a Milky Way. We then went to Virginia Water. We all had a bacon roll in the cafe there, which was only £3.50 each. Then had a nice stroll along the lake. They filmed some of Harry Potter here.

We left as it was starting to get dark. We went back to Craig’s for a bit before going to The Toby in Windsor for tea.

Monday - Craig was back at work today so we will see him later. We decided to go to Windsor. We caught the train which took about half an hour as we had to change at Staines. It only takes half the time by car. We had a nice walk along the river. We didn’t visit the castle today as we have been before. It was the Queen and Prince Phillip’s 70th wedding anniversary today, they were having the family round but we weren’t invited!!
We had a walk around the shops but it then started raining so we found somewhere to eat. Alan had a bbq chicken and cheese panini and I had a jacket potato with tuna. By the time we had finished it was time to get the train back. Craig managed to finish work a bit earlier as tonight we were going into London to see Aladdin. We got the train into Waterloo, then the underground to Leicester Square. Craig had booked us a table at Bubba Gump’s. They do a special menu for theatre goers if you show them your theatre tickets. There is a choice of starter, main and a drink for £19.99 each. Craig and I had the onion frazzles (I think that’s what they were called) and Alan had the garlic bread. For the mains Craig had the burger, Alan had the fish and chips and I had the chicken with mash potato and green beans. It was very nice. There was a bit of a mishap when the waitress accidentally spilt my drink and some of it went over me, but it was soon wiped up and she couldn’t apologise enough. Then it was off to the theatre for Aladdin. It was so good, especially when they fly on the magic carpet. The sets and costumes were really fabulous. Then it was back to Egham and sadly goodbye to Craig, although only for a month as he will be here for Christmas.

Tuesday - We check out of the hotel just after 11 o’clock then it’s off to the station. When we get to Waterloo we walk by the London Eye and over Westminster Bridge. Big Ben looks strange all covered up. We walk down Whitehall and find somewhere to eat near Trafalgar Square. Alan had a hot dog and I had a chicken burger. Then we are off to the underground station to Euston station and a short wait for our train home

Thanks for sharing Karen. Sounds as if you had a great time and lovely pics. Ben and Ash like to go to Winter Wonderland when they go to visit her uncle. They were gutted to miss it this year but they had to visit a bit earlier as it was uncle's 50th birthday and there was a surprise party.

What a fantastic break you fitted so much in . That whole area of Egham Staines and Windsor takes me back to my childhood. I passed those stations on my way to Bracknell where I spent every summer with my cousin . Thanks for sharing. I'd love to see aladdin
