March 07 – Magic Kingdom’s Fantasyland Expansion update

At this weekends D23 anniversary event at Disney's Magic Kingdom, a few more details on the Fantasyland expansion were revealed.

Cinderella area
Groups of 30-40 guests will be led into a room to meet Cinderella who will be dressed in rags. The Fairy Godmother will then lead the group to sing Bibbidi Bobbidi Boo at which point Cinderella’s dress will magically change into a wonderful ballgown right before their eyes. There will then be a chance for a dance with Cinderella or training with the Knight.

Beast’s castle area
Guests will enter Maurice’s cottage where they are told the story of the magic mirror given by the Beast. They then walk through the mirror where they meet Belle where children are given the chance take part in acting out stories told by Belle.

Sleeping Beauty area
Guests are given the chance to throw Sleeping Beauty a surprise Birthday party. They can create her a Birthday card and then meet the princess herself when she receives her surprise party. The meet and greet opportunities in the new area will be different to those elsewhere in the park as guests will be allowed longer with the characters, possibly up to ten minutes.

The Dueling Dumbos attraction is expected to be built on the area currently occupied by the Mad Tea Party. The plans are to move the attraction but it wasn’t announced where to , although this could still all change. Disney plans to create a model of the new Fantasyland similar to that created for Universal’s Wizarding World of Harry Potter so a virtual walk though of the area can be seen on the computer.

Some questions still remain unanswered. There is still no firm date set for when Toontown will close or what will happen to Pixie Hollow and Mickey and Minnie’s houses (although it was confirmed that Mickey and Minnie will always have a place in Magic Kingdom).The theming of the Barnstormer ride hasn’t yet been decided and the fate off the Pooh playground hasn’t been revealed.
