Default July 13 – New arrivals at Disney’s Animal Kingdom

There have been a few new arrivals at Animal Kingdom over the last few weeks. Three baby warthogs were born on July 1st. The three males are doing well and were the first litter for the mother. They will be kept backstage for the next few weeks but will eventually be allowed out on the Kilimanjaro Safari savannah. Including the new arrivals the park is now home to four male warthogs and two female.

Late last month two male oryx calves were born at Animal Kingdom. While one was born with no problems the mother had to undergo a Caesarean section for the second calf. The operation was carried out in front of guests at the veterinary hospital at Rafiki’s Planet Watch. Guests who had the opportunity to see the birth said they felt privileged to witness such a rare event. The calves will be kept backstage until strong enough to join others at Kilimanjaro Safaris savannah. Animal Kingdom is now home to four males and five females in the oryx herd.
